Happy New Year's Resolution Planning!

Another year is about to come to a close and most people are probably thinking about their New Year's Resolutions. The #1 goal most people make for a new year is a new you, or weight loss. And to fit into this statistic, that is part of mine. I have let my self control get out of hand lately and it's my goal to work on it. In turn, this will help my nutrition and weight loss goals.

So as you are making your plans to eat, drink and be merry for New Year's Eve parties with friends and/or family, go big one last night before you commit to be fit! This is not an easy resolution. Too many people join the gym or take the time to work up a fitness and nutrition plan only to have it last for about a month tops. People, this is a lifestyle change, not a fad. Unfortunately, you need to work at it EVERY day! I wish I could lie and say it's gets easier, but there are too many days or weeks I just don't feel like going to the gym, but then when I think about the consequences of not going, you better believe it's enough to get my ass to the gym!

It all boils down to not making excuses and being accountable for your actions. A goal to lose weight is much more than that. You need to make goals of self control, motivation, avoiding temptation, surrounding yourself with supporters, being part of the buddy system, etc. My blog, I hope, brings you support and words of encouragement. I too have struggled with the weight loss battle, but I have come out on top. Yet, every year, every month, every day is a constant battle for me to succeed. Know that you can do it, but start with baby steps.

If your goal is to lose 30lbs in a year and you are starting completely from scratch, begin with only 2 days of fitness activity, or plan to walk after dinner 3 nights for 45 minutes with your dog or significant other. Being sedentary after dinner is not a good thing! Or, plan your meals for the ENTIRE week from breakfast to lunch to dinner to snacks. Leave no unhealthy snacks in the pantry or fridge. Ask your roommates, spouse, family or whoever you live with to be understanding and adopt your healthy eating habits until you develop the self control needed to eat properly.

So now I will let you get to planning, but I will leave you with this...the key to weight loss is not fitness, it's 90% diet. You MUST watch what you are putting in your mouth. This is why Weight Watchers is so successful and my momma is living proof. The woman lost 120lbs from Weight Watchers alone. She never used the treadmill she has at home, she never joined a gym. The most activity she did was walking around the neighborhood at night, just walking...

So, what is your New Year's Resolution going to be?
