Don't Let Snacking Get the Best of You!

Ok, so I've been in a little bit of rough patch lately. I'm human too! This is a common issue for dieters, which makes dieting so damn difficult. I thought I was doing well with my exercises and my meals. So I decided to go the old-school way and write down everything I was eating. I wasn't doing too well tracking in my app and looking back on past calories consumed.

Needless to say, I found my major issue...SNACKING!! My snack foods were getting out of control and way too frequent. In one day alone, this is what my snack entry looked like: apple, banana, whole bag of movie theater butter, rocky road ice cream, 2 servings of trail mix, and crispy chick peas. OMG!! I started on the right track with my first two snacks and then I didn't just fall off the wagon...I was thrown out and bounced around a few times! Lol

All of my meals were on point with oatmeal for breakfast, chicken and veggies for lunch and lean meats or fish with veggies for dinner. But all that meticulously watching my main meals led to me overlooking all those little tidbits (or not so tiny) nibblers in between. Each little bite can really add up and as a dieter, this is never helpful to our desired end results.

So if you're in a rut and you're not sure why you're not making any progress, do what I did and write down by hand each and everything you put in your mouth and when. I find that I'm a night time snacker and that's when I eat the worst snacks. I'm good about having my yogurt, apple or banana while at work. But once I get home, all self-control seems to go out the window!

Some ideas to help cut your snacking are definitely cutting out the processed, high-fat, high sugar items. But also try closing your kitchen down at a certain time...say 9pm no more food, only water. Or limit yourself to 100-calorie snack packs from the snack isle at the grocery store. And if you can't completely cut yourself off from those super tasty, high calorie treats, buy one fresh cookie or pie slice from the bakery section instead of an entire bag of cookies or the whole pie. The key is moderation not deprivation!

So good luck getting back on track and achieving your goal!
